A huge turnout and wonderful weather are just the beginning for great things to say about 2008 Southern Indiana FiberArts Festival. There were the generous folks buying art yarn from me that increased my personal expense account and enabled me to shop!

But even before the crowd - on preview night - I purchased some glitzy fun from Donna Jo Copeland of Breezy Manor. On the left is a badly photographed small batt of varied fibers with a touch of glitz. The masses of color on the right is a gallon zip bag of varied locks and fibers in amazing colors with copper angeline (on top left of the pile). I am contemplating adding some alpaca to the mix before I card.

From the amazing mind of Fuzzarelly's Nancy comes these two squishy bits of delight. Her new name for the angora blends: Bunny & the Beast. HA! Brilliant! I meant to go back for more, but the day was so busy i got side tracked and the next thing I knew, all was done! Note to self, email Nancy ...

Cheryl of Mt Ampato Alpacas in Ohio had new rovings - striped! She had a few colorways, but I let girlie choose, so rosey goodness it is.

Always a favorite of mine is Trading Post for Fiber Arts and the blended rovings from 3 Bags Full. This time i went for 2 colorways. They are wool blends with silks - nice lumpy yarns.

From a new vendor I first met in Greencastle in April I made 2 lovely wood purchases. Sistermaide lucet and tatting shuttle. I have a smaller lucet from Greencaslte and let girlie choose one this time.

And finally, non descript neutral wools. I picked up several of these 2 colors. Will be fun to dye and blend.

Any of you wonderful customers who purchased my art yarns, i was serious about contacting me to see finished items. I like to see where other people's creativity leads! More later - especially about alpaca fe

Betwixt the hurricane winds, no power for days and being driven from the house (thankfully, though) by roofers, my mind is still a bit muddled.

I am excited about Southern Indiana FiberArts Festival in 2 weeks!! Wait, 2 weeks, I still have so much to do, argh... For those of you few folks who are not aware, I am president of Fiber eXchange Guild who presents SIFAF each year. We have a good group and everyone does something wonderful and important. There are some things I have a hard time delegating, but as our wee event has grown so much, for next year we'll have even more folks doing important things!

If you are within driving distance - or need a fiber adventure of your own - come see us on Saturday, October 18 from 9-5 at the fairgrounds in Corydon, IN. See the website at http://www.SouthernIndianaFiberArts.com

Not that any of you have been swamping me with emails wanting to know where I am ... but I have been neglectful lately. Some pretty pics to make you smile!

Below is pictured what I received from an elements swap within the Novelty and Art Yarn Group on Ravelry.com. I wanted to share the bits with you and let you ponder them. In a couple days (promise), I will be sharing more about the swap and what will become of all these things.

Next is suit spun for Fiber Friday Group also on Ravelry. Wool suit jacket pieces with natural dark brown wool, plum wool and plied with gray thread. Spun during Clark County Fair Spinning Demonstration with Grinny Possum. I wanted to spin something unusual and different from what everyone else would be spinning that night ;)

Lastly, spicey also for Fiber Friday. Red wools and alpaca with bits of orange and whiter spots plied with gold cord. I know the picture is a little fuzzed, but I like the loopys ;)

Tomorrow is the beginning of the International Olympics and also the start of something called Ravelympics. In Ravelry-land teams were formed and competitions chosen.

The short version: I am on Team Indiana competing in Handspun Heptathalon, Cowl Jump, WIP (work in project) Wrestling and Holiday Handball.

The long version: Look here for regular updates. No, really, I will do my best to share the fun ;)

What a busy summer! In addition to a family mini-vacation, loads of yardwork and rearranging 2 rooms in the house I have been swapping away in Ravelry-land. Right now I am working on an art yarn swap that involves sending someone elements of an art yarn with words and image to inspire, then the someone spins their own interpretation. Can't wait to see what the amazing folks of the group create!

Another swap is for tea bag holders (like soft wallets) to carry in a purse or project bag. And the last currently in production - actually just in need of finishing touches - is the quarterly ATC swap for Project Spectrum.

The cord connecting my camera to the computer must have a short because it isn't working. I hope to get this sorted out soon because a blgo without pictures is just too wordy ;) But I also wanted to get the who month of participation in Project31 for the flickr group.

I had a bunch of cotton (and a bit of hemp) fiber that needed dying so I gathered supplies, including a small collection of white shirts, for a morning of fun with girlie. As I mixed each dye and used it as I needed, Super-Color-Chick watched and danced until hearing, "Your turn!" At this time I would give her the bottle and off she'd run to where the wet shirts awaited colorization. Not bad, eh? The girlie definitely has an eye for a lot of color ;)

SO, what I was dying is pictured below - cotton pencil roving and hemp. The roving colors got a bit mixed near the end as what is now blue was to be more pink, but, whatever. There was no specific plan intended, so no harm - just pretty colors.

I had put a white shirt on girlie so she: A.) Wouldn't ruin clothes and 2.) Could have a fun dyed momento to wear all summer. One. Pink. Spot. Not even as long as this sentence. That is it. She wasn't really trying to be neat, just turned out that way ... ah, well, later there was mud and there is always more dying to do ;)

Wow. Everytime I participate in this great exchange, I received a perfect scarf ;) This one is from Marilyn G in Victoria, BC and is knit from 100% bamboo. The pattern is "River Rocks" which is what the spaces of glass beads resemble. I am spoiled ;)

Marilyn also included a post card of the marina - with her house boat in the picture (how cool is that?), the pattern for this wonderful scarf (yea!), a scrubby loofa, Manos del Uruguay in black/green, "create" stone, cable needle and yarn shuttles, loverly stitch markers PLUS extra bamboo yarn and beads from the gift scarf!

I didn't realize the picture was so dark and even in the lighter one I took, I did not do justice to the nice Manos del Uruguay yarn, it is very nifty.

If you have never participated in an online swap, I would encourage you to try a reputable one. If you are on Ravelry.com there are numerous opportunities, just search for swaps. swap-bot.com is another source that has certain responsibility factors built in. Some swaps organized on Ravelry and other sites actually take place within swap-bot.

The third incarnation of ISE was my first online swap and I have been a vounteer hostess with the past 2. I truly enjoy surprises. At Christmas you would never find me snooping for gifts - no surprise in that! Surprises involving fiber art are just THAT much more fun!

I dyed this for my International Scarf Exchange 6 partner. The left started as white shetland (from B & G farm) and the right as white alpaca (from Crossroads Alpacas). Same dye pot with blue drink mix only. I know the picture looks like the lighting is off, but this is pretty true to the colors, maybe a bit duller.

I had originally planned to card them together, but with this new color intrigue I chose to spin them independently and ply together. Nice yarn ;)

I knit some teeny bunnies that are too sweet! The blue one is from a bit of alpaca left after plying the above. The reddish on left is cotton boucle, commercial spun. And the super soft orange on right is my handspun angora. I purchased the angora fluff from Fuzzarelly Fibers. I made some tiny alterations that really don't matter on this scale, but the pattern I used is Teeny Tiny Knitted Toys from Little Cotton Rabbits.
